The Year of the Woman Leader
While women made gains politically, increasing their number in Congress and governorships, they are far from achieving parity in American politics. So while 2006 isn’t exactly the year of the woman, with the first woman about to become Speaker of the House, the highest ranking position in politics to be achieved by a woman, this might be the year of the woman leader. In that vein, Fortune Magazine’s October 16 issue, featured “The 50 Most Powerful Women in Business.†As the article shows, women are pursuing, and succeeding, in careers that lead to top positions in large corporations. With the gains made politically by women in the election, it is clear that women can succeed in politics as well.
