Workshop for Young Women in High School and College

  • by

NC State Women’s Center, Saint Augustine’s College, and Shaw University are sponsoring this area’s first Running & Winning workshop on Saturday, November 3, 2007, at Peace College in Raleigh.

This interactive workshop is designed to give young women in high school and college the opportunity to explore public service as a career. During the session, participants will meet with local women office holders and explore their own leadership abilities. We believe that one way to reach greater representational parity for women is to develop leadership potential in our young women.

The Running & Winning Workshop is non-partisan and will bring together young women from local high schools and colleges for an active political experience. Working in small groups, they will interview local and state female elected officials, learning about their experiences in seeking and holding public office. Afterwards, each small group, guided by trained facilitators, will plan a mock campaign by analyzing issues, designing publicity, and writing and delivering a campaign speech. This program is designed for young women early in their leadership development – specifically targeting high school seniors and college first years and sophomores – in order to give a transforming experience that allows them to do things they haven’t thought they were capable of doing before.

Please direct the young women you know to www.nccwps.org/runwin/ for more information. The deadline for registration has been extended to October 19.
