Contact your NC Legislator regarding EITC

  • by

NOTE: In our AAUW NC Public Policy Program brochure you will see that enacting a NC Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is one of our priorities. Last year the bill was passed to establish an EITC. Please read below to see what needs to be done for this public policy priority in the 2008 state budget. Mary

ACTION ALERT ON THE REFUNDABLE EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT

The NC House increased the state refundable Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) from 3.5% to 5% of the federal credit in their budget. However the Senateโ€™s version of the budget does not include the EITC increase.
In the next few days, House and Senate members will be working together to draft a compromise spending plan for the year. Now is the time to let your legislators know that they should support North Carolinaโ€™s working families by including the state EITC increase in the final budget.
Stagnant wages and rising costs of necessities like gas, food, health care and housing, are squeezing hundreds of thousands of North Carolina families and threatening their economic well-being. Increasing the state EITC is an effective and targeted investment that will provide a much-needed economic stimulus to more than 845,000 low- and moderate-income North Carolina working families who need the help the most.
Please thank your House member and urge your Senator to follow the Houseโ€™s lead on the state EITC.
