School Violence Prevention Bill – roundtables

The problem of bullying in our schools is addressed in the proposed School Violence Prevention Act under consideration in the 2007-08 NC Legislative session.  A renewed effort is underway to get the bill passed in the next session.  The attachment provides information on the bill and the groups supporting the proposed bill.

Equality NC is sponsoring two roundtable discussions on bullying and harrassment in NC’s schools and how to end it and information on the School Violence Prevention Act on:

  • October 21, 2008 at 7:00 p.m in Boone (BeansTalk Coffee, 352 West King St.)
  • October 29, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. in Wilmington (New Hanover County Main Library, 201 Chestnut St.)

The proposed legislation supports one of AAUW NC’s current Public Policy Program action priorities:  “Freedom from violence and fear of violence in homes, schools, workplaces and communities.”  Postcards for members to sign expressing support of the bill will be available at the Fall AAUW NC meeting in Chapel Hill on October 31-November 1 or by contacting me.
