President’s Message

It is hard to believe that it is already the middle of November! With Thanksgiving just a few days away, I have so much to be thankful for again this year. My list of blessings includes AAUW and my relationships with each one of you. I hope that your gratitude list continues to grow.

I am looking forward to our Silent Auction. It is always an afternoon filled with fun, friendship, and some good-natured “bidding wars” over some previously undiscovered treasure.
JoAnn

Our Next Meeting: Meet us in classroom #2 in the Onslow Memorial Hospital Education Building on Western Blvd. on November 22 from 2 to 4 p.m. for our annual Holiday Party and Silent Auction. Please bring a gently used or new item for the auction and a finger food for sharing. As always, we love guests!

AAUW NC needs an interim secretary to complete Mary Stephens’ term. We have the state convention in 2010 and perhaps two executive conference calls to be recorded. Some of you take wonderful notes, plus we do use a tape recorder. We are a team – don’t stand back thinking someone else will do it. Contact Millie Hoffler-Foushee at millieh@triad.rr.com or 336-643-6689.

October’s Program Highlights: Health Literacy and Evaluating Internet Resources JoAnn Hall presented a very informative program about accessing reliable health information on the internet. Key questions to ask are: Can you easily identify the site sponsor? Does the site list advisory board members or consultants? Does the site represent a specific company? Has the site been updated frequently? Is the information presented in a clear and easy to understand manner? Is the information intended for the consumer or the health professional? If you missed this helpful program and/or have questions please contact JoAnn.

CALENDARNovember 22 (Sunday) – 2-4 p.m. Holiday Party and Silent Auction. Start saving your new or gently used items now for the auction. Bidding will be fierce – sharpen those pencils! Bring a finger food to share. We will be in Classroom #2 at Onslow Memorial Hospital Education Building. Guests most welcome!

November 26 – HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

December – No branch meeting. Happy Holidays!

Mark your calendar: April 16-17, 2010 – AAUW NC Convention, University Place Hilton, Charlotte. Convention is a time to connect with your fellow AAUW members from all over the state. This group is a rich source of knowledge on a multitude of topics. Don’t miss it!
