For the last few years our November meeting has been our holiday party and silent auction. Although we enjoy it, attendance has dwindled. As a group, we need to decide if we want to continue this party. If we do, then we need to decide on a date. I am looking for someone to offer to find and reserve the location for us and to generally be responsible for this event. I am unable to plan it this year.

PRESIDENT JOANN IN THE NEWS: We all know our president, JoAnn, as a very competent leader of AAUW Jacksonville Regional Branch. She is also well respected as the Medical Librarian at the Navy Hospital, Camp Lejeune. A recent article in “Scuttlebutt”, the hospital newsletter, highlighted JoAnn’s accomplishments in the ever-challenging task of keeping the medical community well-informed. Her bailiwick includes 500 books, surgical journals, and electronic databases. Congratulations, JoAnn, for the much-deserved recognition!

OKTOBERFEST, OCTOBER 27th: We will join the Onslow County Council for Women to hand out information of interest to women and their families at the Oktoberfest in downtown Jacksonville. This event is the largest fundraiser for Onslow Community Outreach and its Homeless Center, Soup Kitchen, Caring Community Clinic and Christmas Cheer. Admission is a canned food item (or more). We always have a fun time and meet very interesting women. Connie has the sign-up list. At this time the 12 noon to 3 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. slots need people. Thanks in advance for helping!

2012 MEETING DATES AND PROGRAMS*
October 18 – November 2 – One-Stop Voting
October 29, 3:30 p.m. – Regular meeting. Location: White Oak Bakery, 75 Balsam Rd., Jacksonville.
October 27, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. – Oktoberfest (joint project with Onslow County Council for Women), 421 Court Street, downtown Jacksonville. Contact Connie to sign up to work the booth. We need two more workers!
November 4 – Daylight saving time ends.
November 6 – ELECTION DAY
