January E-Newsletter

From: Mary Peterson

HAPPY 2013…I hope each of you had a joyful holiday season.  You didn’t get an E-newsletter for December, but  I’m sure you had plenty of cards to enjoy.  Speaking of reading, if you haven’t gotten your Tar Heel News in the mail you can read it online at www.aauwnc.org

It contains lots of news you need to know.  Thanks to Karla for putting it all together in an attractive format.

Now it’s time to get back to planning for AAUWNC.  This will be the first of the Convention E-Newsletters.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS:  APRIL 12-13  ANNUAL MEETING OF AAUW NC

We are returning to the Country Inn and Suites just off I-40 in the Burlington area. This very convenient location was a hit last year and your Exec. Committee saw no reason to find a new location.  Next month you will get lots of details about our annual meeting.  Do plan to bring as many branch members as possible to hear the latest AAUW information, participate in some action and have some fun while renewing friendships and sharing ideas.   You get a surprise gift too.

PLANNING TO GO TO NEW ORLEANS FOR THE AAUW CONVENTION  JUNE 9-12

Jean D’Addario, Wilmington branch president, suggested we look into taking a bus to convention.  Michelle Evans, Tar Heel branch member, did the research and found we could get a bus that holds 25 people for about $350. a person. We would leave on June 8th from Raleigh with stops in Greensboro and Charlotte and do an overnight on the way as the drive is about 16 hours.  We’d arrive by noon on the 9th and stay through the end of convention; leave for home early am the 13th.  We would have the use of the bus while in the Big Easy if we wanted to go someplace special.  Also we could schedule stops in SC and GA for AAUW members if we don’t have 25 going from NC.  I looked at plane fares and they are about the same price.  None of this is set in stone (except the price) so let me hear your reaction to this idea soon.  Registration prices for the convention increase after Feb. 3.
